Biography
Dr. Maria Jimenez-Andres is an assistant professor at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at Hamad bin Khalifa university, where she teaches, among other courses, Media Accessibility. Her research interests lie at the intersection of migration, inclusion, and accessibility, with a particular focus on both basic and applied interdisciplinary studies. Dr. Jimenez-Andres’s work explores how these themes are addressed across various fields, including media, translation, and intercultural communication.
With a rich teaching background spanning the UK, Spain, and the UAE, Dr. Jimenez-Andres has taught in the areas of translation, interpreting, and language studies. She has also worked as a professional translator, holding positions at institutions such as the Bolivarian Embassy of Venezuela and Ipsos Mori in the UK.
Dr. Jimenez-Andres holds a degree in Translation and Interpreting, a Master's in Higher Education, and a PhD in Translation and Intercultural Studies. Her doctoral dissertation examined communication and language management within organizations supporting refugees. Passionate about outreach, she has collaborated on numerous projects with NGOs dedicated to refugee and migrant communities in both Europe and the Middle East, blending research with hands-on advocacy work.
Recently, Dr. Jimenez-Andres expanded her research into the arts, producing the documentary Al Compás, which explores the lives of refugee musicians. The film was awarded Best Short Documentary at the Flamenco Film Festival in 2024, highlighting her commitment to using media as a tool for social impact and activism.
