Biography
I am Mowafa Said Househ (موفق سعيد حوسة), PhD, a full professor of health informatics in the Arab World and am associated with the Hamad Bin Khalifa University, College of Science and Engineering, at the Qatar Foundation. In 2020, I had the honor of being selected as a Fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (IAHSI). The IAHSI functions as a distinguished honor society, acknowledging expertise in biomedical and health informatics on a global scale.
My research interests revolve around the utilization of information and communication technologies in healthcare, with a particular emphasis on Artificial Intelligence Technologies to support Consumer/Patient Health Outcomes. Additionally, I harbor a strong interest in the field of digital mental health, striving to leverage technology for the benefit of both patients and healthcare professionals.
In 2020, I had the honor of being the recipient of first place in the United Nations ITU Artificial Intelligence Challenge. Furthermore, my work has been recognized with prestigious awards such as the Researcher Award from the King Abdullah International Medical Research Centre in 2015, the MBC Hope Awards for Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship in 2015, and being named a finalist for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Arab Enterprise Forum competition in 2014. I am also grateful for additional recognitions including the Young Researcher Award in 2010 from King Abdullah International Medical Research Centre, the Northern British Columbia Healthcare in Technology Award in 2007, and the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Trainee Award in 2003. In 2024 I receieved the Digital Health Educator Award from HIMSS and ZIMAM.
Moreover, I am privileged to hold the position of adjunct Professor at the University of Victoria's School of Health Information Science in Victoria, BC, Canada.
With a scholarly contribution comprising over 350 research papers and more than 14 books, my work in health informatics aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application, thereby impacting healthcare practices in the Arab world and beyond.
