Project: Basic Research

Project Details

Abstract

This three-day (plus one) workshop has the following objectives. First, it will enhance awareness and understanding of international impact practices related to sport in emergencies. The term 'sport in emergencies' encompasses a broad range of intervention activities with formal and non-formal education at their core that are life-saving and life-sustaining for children, youth, and their families during crisis situations. Second, to conduct a private roundtable at which UNESCO Chairholders in sport, leaders from academia, sport institutions, and international civil society organizations will explore how Qatar can lead initiatives related to sport in emergencies. Third, to produce a co-authored policy paper (blueprint for action) that will be distributed to UNESCO, ministries, and relevant stakeholders, providing strategic guidance on three key pillars of using sport in emergencies: governance, delivery mechanisms, and measuring impact. The fourth objective relates to capacity building through the development of a postgraduate (elective) course designed to prepare students majoring in sport to respond to emergencies involving sports.
