Abstract

In recent years there has been a growing interest in the use of electric vehicles. This has resulted in the need to develop the necessary charging infrastructure. In this paper, the issue of optimizing the locations and capacity of charging stations is analyzed through the evaluation of its expansion. This is achieved using a model based on a mixed integer program. Since this is a highly practical problem, one of the main focuses of this work is in using real world data like population density and the state of the electrical distribution system. An efficient approach is proposed for acquiring such data and its integration into the model. The developed model is used for evaluating the expansion of EV charging infrastructure for the cities of Doha and San Francisco.
