Abstract

This paper presents a VHDL implementation of principal component analysis based on Xilinix ISE 8.2i. The system accepts as input a data matrix of size M × N, and computes the covariance matrix, its eigenvectors and eigenvalues, and outputs the principal component vectors. The VHDL code was written, compiled, tested, and simulated. Experimental results are presented for the Xilinx ISE 8.2i and compared with results obtained from the MATLAB software to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design.
