Abstract

The performance analysis of a dual-hop mixed RF/FSO communication system operating with convolutional self orthogonal coding (CSOC) scheme, energy harvesting, and amplify and forward relaying techniques is explored in this paper. A source node is connected with a destination through an AF SWIPT-based relay operating with the time switching scheme. The Rayleigh fading model is considered for the source-relay RF channel, while the relay-destination FSO one is represented by the Malaga-M fading model with pointing errors. For both coded and uncoded communication cases, exact formulas for the average bit error probability (ABEP) are provided in terms of the system features. Monte Carlo simulations are used to endorse the analytical results. Compared to uncoded communication scenario, CSOC codes produce large coding gains, as expected. For instance, a coding gain of 29 dB is obtained using a CSOC code with 0.5 as coding rate for a ABER of 10(-5).
