Abstract
Qatar’s foreign and economic relations have demonstrated increased connectivity with China on the basis of trade in liquefied natural gas (LNG) and China’s drive towards environmental sustainability. This trend is expected to continue and will be reinforced by the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). It is argued that this can be understood through the model of complex interdependence. This relationship will be further motivated by the shift in both global energy geopolitics and regional insecurity within the Gulf region, both of which will support Qatar’s involvement with China and the BRI on a strategic level.
