Abstract

This paper presents an Adaptive Observer (AO) based Model Predictive Control (MPC) for a grid- connected multilevel Packed UCells (PUC) inverter. The proposed AO performance is evaluated using a single-phase 7-level PUC inverter connected to the grid through filtering inductor. Based on the actual grid current, the AO is proposed to estimate accurately the PUC capacitor voltage, which is fed to the MPC algorithm by making use of a hybrid model considering both discrete and continuous variables. For real-time constraints, necessary conditions are given to guarantee the practical stability of the proposed AO based MPC (AO-MPC).Theoretical analysis and simulation results are given to show that the proposed scheme is stable for all system configurations andhas good performances even during disturbances (grid current sudden change and input voltage variation).
