Abstract
The importance of energy saving and pollution reduction for the survival of our planet is tremendous. In order to better characterize the role that may be played by infrared films in this regard, we produced first, photometric spectra for some films, which gives a good idea about their effectiveness in cutting the blackbody radiation from the sun. Second, we considered that a complementary investigation that would allow us to estimate the temperature reduction due to these films will give a better picture of the energy saving role of these films, keeping in mind the need for an experimental method that may play this role in a selective way. We mean that the method should be able to selectively give the temperature reduction from blackbody radiation at the expenses of other contributing processes especially the heat conduction process. The results of these investigations are presented and analyzed. We conclude with some important recommendations.
