Beyond Zakat: Corporate Community Involvement in Dubai

Abstract

A key component of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is Corporate Community Involvement (CCI) [1,2]. It is a dimension of CSR that places particular emphasis on the community as a key stakeholder. CCI refers to the structures and policies companies have in place to provide financial and in-kind assistance (e.g. corporate philanthropy) as well as contributions of time and expertise (e.g. employee volunteer programs) to the wider community, often through partnerships with nonprofit organizations [3]. A large of instruments exits for companies to engage in CCI, including donations, sponsorships, cause-related marketing, establishment of a foundation, partnership with not profit organization, or volunteering [3,4]. CCI can lead to competitive advantage [5], drives reputation [6] improve employee moral, lead to customer-company identification [7,8] which drives loyalty and willingness for rewarding.
