Abstract
The aim of this paper is to assess the impact of various factors
including Sadaqat1 on poverty status of a household. For this purpose the
Logit model has been applied to the data reported in Household Income
and Expenditure Survey (1987-88). The results of the model show that as
more Sadaqat are transferred to the poor, the less is the probability of a
household being poor. The probability of a household being poor is
negatively related with the number of earners and educational level of the
head of household, and is positively related with the size of the
household. Moreover, households in Punjab are found relatively poorer
than those in any other province of Pakistan.
