title = "Effect of welding speed on weld quality and microstructure of tandem submerged arc welded X80 pipeline steel",
abstract = "Due to the increased demand for energy, the use of natural gas has been increased in the last few years. Long pipelines have been expanded to carry the natural gas from remote regions to distribution hubs. Submerged arc welding is one of the most common welding processes used for manufacturing these pipes. The use of more than one welding wire has proven to accomplish welds with better mechanical properties. This paper discusses the effect of increasing welding speed on the quality and microstructure of welded joints. The welding was performed using single and double wires and different speeds (16.93, 19.69, 25.4, 29.63 and 33.87mm/s). The weld quality was evaluated using non-destructive testing methods (NDT), while the weld bead characteristics were studied using weld geometry measurements. The weld micro structures were investigated using optical microscopes. A relationship between welding speed, weld quality and microstructure was established.",
