Abstract
This work proposes a means to increase the effective modulation bandwidth of a visible light communication (VLC) system using phosphor-coated white light emitting diodes (LEDs) under wide-angle operation. The proposed remedy involves employing a response-flattening filter at the receiver's end of such a VLC system. Off-the-shelf component models are used to simulate the VLC system of interest in order to guarantee realistic results. A trade-off between satisfying a relatively large modulation bandwidth and wide-angle operation of the system is observed. The response- flattening filter proves to be an adequate remedy to mitigate such a trade-off. Analytical expressions and numerical results are used to verify the validity of our proposal.
