Abstract

The mass transfer of wire mesh honeycomb is investigated, and a new correlation Sh=1.108Re0.5Sc1/3 is proposed based on data for the mass transfer limited performance for selective catalytic reduction of NOx by NH3 over wire mesh honeycomb catalysts. The numerical model is developed to evaluate the performance of wire mesh honeycomb, which is verified by the experiments. By measuring the NOx conversion over wire mesh honeycomb catalysts with different washcoat thickness and cell density, the intraporous diffusion and interphase diffusion are studied. The pressure drop of wire mesh honeycomb is low. Compared to ceramic monolith, wire mesh honeycomb catalysts possess high catalyst utilization relative to the geometric surface area and the catalyst weight.
