Abstract

This paper develops cross-layer techniques for routing rate-constrained traffic in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) with multichannel access capability. We first derive and prove sufficient conditions that ensure feasibility of data rates in multichannel access WSNs. Then, we use these conditions to devise routing approaches that maximize the network lifetime while ensuring that the obtained routing solutions satisfy the required data rates. Finally, we evaluate and compare the performances of the proposed routing approaches under various network parameters.
