Abstract
The influence of feed concentration, working pressure and membrane type on the fractionation effect and volume flow by ultrafiltration (UF) of lignosulphonates (LS) was studied. The process productivity decreases as the LS concentration in the feed increases, and the character of its alteration agrees with that predicted on the basis of a concentration polarization-gel formation model. A significant difference of the fractionation ability in the presence and absence of a gel layer was established. Some characteristics of the gel layer formed from LS fractions rejected by membranes were studied.
