Abstract
Energy is at a crossroads: the Russia-Ukraine war and the conflict in Middle East have put at the forefront the importance of energy security and the role of geopolitics in States’ survival. At the same time, climate change is threatening the environment and human lives at an unprecedented level. As nations are striving to address the catastrophic impacts of global warming, the implementation of low-carbon energy resources, such as solar, wind and hydropower, is increasing. But until the net-zero goals are successfully met, fossil fuels like oil and gas will keep playing a significant role in the global energy mix. Therefore, the study of petroleum exploration remains relevant.
