Abstract

Hot stamping is a new advanced manufacturing process, which includes both thermo-mechanical and microstructural transformations. The simultaneous and in-process integration of forming and hardening by hot stamping offers freedom for automotive industry to design and fabricate lightweight structures and parts to attain low emissions. In this chapter, hot stamping process is discussed in detail addressing its material, process parameter and controls, modeling, lubrication, and product design requirements. The control of the process parameters on hot stamping enables manufacturers to produce the most complex parts with high-dimensional accuracies and the most desirable mechanical properties.
