Abstract
The Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) and the Sliding Mode Control (SMC) algorithms for the magnetic field in the magnetorheological (MR) damper were discussed. The algorithms were formulated based on full-state feedback (FSF) and static output feedback (SOF) with or without an observer. The MR damper was modeled by a Bouc-Wen hysteretic element in parallel with a linear viscous damper. The results show that the MR dampers are effective in reducing both the displacement and acceleration responses.
