Abstract

This entry intends to provide a context for the subsequent entries in this section. To this end, the critical concepts and aspects of mixed methods research (MMR) will be briefly discussed. The fundamental elements of MMR to be addressed are the philosophical underpinnings of MMR and the purposes for which quantitative and qualitative methods might be mixed. In addition, the design structures and research questions, the MMR sampling, and MMR inference, also called meta-inference, will be discussed. Each of these aspects will be briefly discussed so that readers get a bird's eye view of MMR and better benefit from reading the entries in this section.
