Abstract

One of the recent promising multiple access schemes is the so-called Index Modulation based Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (IM-OFDMA), which has shown efficient performance as compared to the conventional schemes. In this paper, the performance of IM-OFDMA in the context of cellular networks is analyzed compared to the conventional OFDMA scheme considering different scenarios and configurations. Both the Signal-to-Interference Ratio (SIR) and the average Bit Error Rate (BER) are analyzed consid-ering the co-channel interference in cellular networks. Results demonstrate that SIR is identical for both schemes regardless of the configuration parameters. Also, results show the superiority of IM-OFDMA over OFDMA at low values of frequency-reuse factor and/or urban areas with dense buildings.
