Abstract

Index Modulation based Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (IM-OFDMA) has been proposed as an efficient uplink multiple access scheme to meet the exponential growth of the number of users and the growing demands in data rates. Compared to its conventional counterparts, IM-OFDMA is able to serve more number of users with lower bit error rate. In this paper, the performance of IM-OFDMA is analyzed in terms of the bit error rate considering users with diverse quality-of-service requirements. Specifically, the set of the served users is assumed to have users with different target data rates. Based on the frequency chunk size, the modulation order of each user is adapted to satisfy the required data rate of the corresponding user. Analytical and simulation results are provided and discussed to show the performance as compared to the conventional OFDMA system. Results show that IM-OFDMA can serve the users based on their data rate requirements while achieving bit error rate lower than it in OFDMA systems.
