Abstract

Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery technology has become a cornerstone in the transition to sustainable energy systems, particularly in electric vehicles (EVs), energy storage systems (ESSs), and portable electronics. As Qatar progresses towards a diversified and sustainable energy future, Li-ion batteries play a crucial role in achieving energy security and sustainability goals. This paper examines the specific challenges and opportunities related to the deployment and advancement of Li-ion battery technology in Qatar. Key challenges include managing extreme thermal conditions, developing advanced recycling infrastructure, and integrating battery technology within existing energy systems. Opportunities arise from leveraging Qatar's abundant natural resources, strategic investments in research and development (R&D), and collaborations with global technology leaders. The paper also discusses Qatar's potential to become a regional hub for Li-ion battery innovation, in alignment with its national vision for sustainable development.
