Abstract

The dynamics of four-wave mixing processes in photorefractive crystals assuming the phase conjugation condition are investigated. The coupled four-wave mixing equations in paraxial analysis is solved numerically under the appropriate boundary conditions using the beam propagation method. The observed regular and irregular oscillations are characterized by means of cross-correlation functions and a Karhunen-Loeve decomposition. It turns out that the running transverse wave is described by two eigenmodes. The analysis includes the dynamical evolution of diffraction gratings in the crystal as well as spatial effects caused by the diffraction and by the non-collinear propagation of the four beams.
