Abstract

This chapter examines the multifaceted landscape of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) with a specific focus on the context in Qatar. The analysis offers an exploration of ESD with regard to its historical evolution, current status, and future prospects. Against the backdrop of Qatar's ambitious national development agenda, as reflected in Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV 2030), this chapter scrutinises the pivotal role of education in the pursuit of sustainable development goals and the nation’s broader development strategies. The chapter presents a comprehensive overview of the current state of ESD within Qatar's education system and the wider society, locating the discussion within the broader context of the country's socio-economic evolution and sustainable development. The study concludes by focusing on the future prospects for ESD in Qatar, offering insightful recommendations for its continued development and integration into the national educational policy.
