Abstract

The Indiana Center for Database Systems (ICSD) at Purdue has embarked in an ambitious endeavor to become a premiere world-class database research center. ICSD was founded with an initial grant from the State of Indiana Corporation of Science and Technology in the year 1990, and since then it has grown to have 9 faculty members and about 30 total researchers. The vdbms Project has developed a video-enhanced database systems that supports comprehensive and efficient database management, including feature-based preprocessing for video content representation and indexing. ICDS has performed several large-scale, multi-year efforts that brings research from ICSD to bear on real-worlds problems giving students training in database development techniques.
