Abstract
Tawarruq, a mode of providing debt in Islamic finance, distinguishes itself from other modes of Islamic finance by enabling the creation of, in effect, pure credit financing. The instrument has achieved widespread adoption within the Islamic banking sphere but has remained highly controversial. The contributors - luminaries in the field of Islamic finance - advance our understanding of the instrument and frame the ongoing debate.
