Abstract

The Wye External Programme (WEP), the first distance education initiative from Wye College, University of London, was launched in February 1988 to provide postgraduate Masters and Diploma courses in Agricultural Development. The early development of the programme was fully detailed by Bernstein and Bryson (1988), and in a follow-up paper by Teshome (1990). This chapter focuses on the subsequent growth of this unique vocational postgraduate distance learning programme. Three aspects of the programme are particularly relevant to an appreciation of the lessons learned.
