Abstract

This training guide is designed to meet the needs of trainers and other professionals involved in training with special reference to agricultural development. It can be used as resource material for conducting training courses for trainers, as a source of reference or guide on training principles and methods, or as a source of independent learning and study for those interested in acquiring the necessary skills and knowledge for conducting training courses. The Guide is produced in two volumes. Volume One contains the core material consisting of the text, activities and annexes. Volume Two comprises selected readings and an annotated bibliography. The Guide approaches training within the broad framework of learning theories in general, and adult and professional learning in particular. Nevertheless, it adopts a practical approach by exploring principles and methods that have useful application in different training contexts. The range of topics covered encompasses the full span of the training cycle: assessing training needs; designing and preparing training courses; conducting training; and evaluating training. For each stage, it introduces the basic principles involved, provides appropriate examples, and explores their application in the training environment.
