Abstract

Why Qaradawi?
Shaykh Yüsuf al-Qaradawi stands as a symbol of a remarkable historical stage in Islamic thinking and fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), as well as in the Islamic movement. Writing about him or studying his career and his ideas demands an understanding of how modern Islamic thinking is intertwined with Islamic jurisprudence in order to serve one goal: establishing the normative authority (marji iyya) of the Sharia. Achieving this goal prepared, in turn, the ground on which the Islamic movement later called "political Islam" was founded.
